Here I am with some awesome news!
For those of you who are fans of Sailor Moon (if you’ve no clue who that is, please click on the link), you’ll be happy to hear that there’s going to be a new series debut in 2013! Following in the footsteps of Hellsing Ultimate and Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Sailor Moon is getting a makeover that will be more consistent with the original manga! Being a fan of the series, I know exactly what that means, but for those of you who don’t: This series will be less suited for children.
Most people who have even heard of Sailor Moon have typically heard of the complaints concerning Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune from the English Dub, who were presented as ‘cousins’ in the series when they were actually lovers. There are several other factors and details to take into consideration as well. Zoisite wasn’t a female character at all, and was very obviously Kunzite‘s (Nephlite) lover; Chibiusa (Rini) and Pegasus, etc., the list goes on throughout the series as more characters are introduced. There’s a lot to correct concerning this series and how the characters are portrayed in relation to each other.
I don’t think that this means that the show won’t be child friendly, but I do think that in light of recent times and more leniency in terms of acceptable types of relationships in media that maybe this version won’t have to be shy about who the characters are and who they’re with. I hope that they’ll do a good job and that dub, if they create one, will be just as good. Sailor Moon is the one anime that set the bar for fame, renown and acclaim, and I know that they’ll keep everything else trailing behind them.
