The time is now! The lions are needed again but there is a new threat that is also in the way with a old foe. That doesn’t mean the pilots are alone in this as well. Read my review on Nicktoons’ Voltron Force.
[Little to no spoilers, promised]
Nicktoons (and to some extent Nickelodeon), has been picking up the action titles lately and the nostalgia factor, something Cartoon Network use to do before they stated showing original content. With Dragon Ball Z Kai and Power Rangers, new audiences get to see something I grew up with, even if it’s a little different. And it seems this trend is not going away anytime soon as Nicktoons is now airing Voltron Force, a sequel to the original Voltron. It’s not as much as a reboot of the series although most of the original Voltron group got some make overs, it’s still the same team. A short summary of what the series will be about is as follwed
The new animated series based on the classic Voltron: Defender of the Universe television saga! The Voltron Force will journey to new planets, discover new powers and unearth ancient secrets. Three young cadets will learn what it takes to fight alongside the galaxy’s greatest heroes and pilot incredible robot lions. Voltron will be needed once again to combat a rising evil in the galaxy, and a tyrant from within. Bonds will be formed and friendships will be tested as the Voltron Force gels together as a team in an epic battle of good versus evil.
To clarify it, Voltron Force takes place 5 to 7 yrs after the original show. The world is at peace after the death of Lotor. but as the world celebrates this, a Sky Marshall grows jealous of the Voltron Force to the point that he immediately outcasts the Lion robots and disbands the Force. The group goes to save the black Lion, which is locked away separately, with the help of some new cadets who they will train to to become a new Voltron Force. Little do they know, though, that an old enemy has come back for revenge.
From there, it’s the show. I didn’t watch the full episode, not because I didn’t like it (I did) be because I had tune in late but I got the rest of just by the rest of the episode. I would say, it’s good. Animation could be a little more clear (or it could be because of standard def) but other than that it’s good. Voice acting is smooth and dialog is a right mix of comedy and action/drama. 3D animation for the Robots in the show (yes, ROBOTS) is cool as well. If you have a younger sibling or you just want to check it out, go ahead. New episodes of Voltron Force premiere every Thursday after Dragon Ball Z Kai on Nicktoons.
